Evie Networks offers three connector types:
- Type 2 for (AC Charging Only)
- CHaDeMo (DC Charging Only)
- CCS2 (DC Charging Only)
Most modern electric vehicles (EVs) are compatible with Evie DC fast charging, as it has become a standard feature in the EV industry. However, there may be a few exceptions or older models that do not support DC fast charging and (PHEV) Hybrid vehicles. It's important to check the specifications of specific EV models to determine their charging capabilities and whether they are AC-only or DC-compatible.
Certain (PHEVs) Hybrid Vehicles are not compatible with DC fast charging
In general, smaller electric vehicles or EVs with smaller battery capacities may not be equipped with DC fast charging capabilities (PHEVs). These vehicles are typically designed for shorter daily commutes or city driving, where slower AC charging overnight or at destination charging points is more common and sufficient.
Old models not compatible
Additionally, some early or niche EV models may not support DC fast charging due to older technology or limited charging infrastructure at the time of their release. However, as the EV market continues to evolve, more and more vehicles are being designed with DC fast charging compatibility.
Check Manufacturers Manual
To determine the charging capabilities of a specific EV model, it is best to consult the manufacturer's specifications, and user manuals, or contact the manufacturer directly. They will have the most accurate and up-to-date information regarding the charging options available for their vehicles.

What is Autocharge?
Autocharge lets you start a charge just by plugging in - no need to open the app.
When you plug in, your vehicle sends us an ID that matches the one saved to your account, and charging starts automatically. That ID comes from the vehicle itself. It isn't your number plate, or the name you've given the vehicle in the app.
Autocharge works with most vehicles on most of our network, but not all. You can check which vehicles and which sites are compatible below.
Setting up Autocharge
What you'll need
- A vehicle added to your account
- A credit or debit card as your payment method (Apple Pay and PayPal aren't supported)
- At least one completed charge on a compatible charger
The app does the rest of the work to check your vehicle is compatible.
Activating Autocharge
You can set up Autocharge by adding your vehicle in your Profile. We'll ask you to confirm which past sessions were completed by the vehicle you're setting up as you may have charged more than one vehicle on your account.
This is how we learn to recognise the right car, so it's worth taking care with this step - choosing a session you're certain your vehicle completed will help us match it correctly.
You can also activate Autocharge during a charge, as long as you've already added a compatible vehicle in the Evie app and you're at a charger that supports it. We'll ask you to confirm that the vehicle you're charging is the one saved in your app - so if you're charging a different vehicle, you won't be able to set Autocharge up during that session.
Starting an Autocharge session
Once Autocharge is set up for your vehicle you can just roll up to a compatible charger and plug in.
It's worth checking the charger's screen to confirm the charge has started - you'll see a green tick, and energy will begin flowing. The Evie app will also show when charging starts and how your charge is progressing.
Ending an Autocharge session
You can stop the charge from the Evie app, the charger or from your vehicle. The receipt will be sent to your email, and the session will be recorded in the Charges page on the Evie app.
Autocharge FAQ
Can I set up Autocharge for more than one vehicle? Not at the moment. Autocharge can only be active for one vehicle on your account. If you add a different vehicle, it will replace the one currently set up.
Can I use Autocharge on a rental vehicle? No. Autocharge is designed for a vehicle you use regularly. We aren't able to activate it on vehicles that are shared across multiple drivers or accounts, and attempts to do so may be declined.
How do I remove or pause Autocharge? Go to the vehicle page in the Profile section of the app. Your Autocharge status will show as "Activated". Tap it to open the Edit Autocharge page, where you can:
- Remove Autocharge - unlinks it from your account entirely
- Pause Autocharge - keeps the setup but stops it working for now
Pausing is useful if you're lending your vehicle to someone.
Can I use an Evie voucher with Autocharge? Yes. Any voucher you have will be applied to your charge before your card is charged.
Can I use PayPal or Apple Pay with Autocharge? No. Autocharge needs a credit or debit card as your default payment method. If you're currently on PayPal or Apple Pay, you'll need to switch before Autocharge will work.
You can't change payment methods during a charge, so if you set Autocharge up mid-session, update your payment method once that charge finishes.
Which sites aren't compatible with Autocharge? Most of our DC fast chargers support Autocharge, but some older models don't, and no AC chargers do. View the list of incompatible chargers.
You can spot these on the map -
they will show an "Autocharge Unavailable" icon, and you can filter the map to show only compatible chargers.
You can also filter the map to show only Autocharge-compatible chargers.
Which vehicles aren't compatible with Autocharge? Most EVs on Australian roads work with Autocharge. Add your vehicle model in the Evie app and we'll tell you whether it's compatible. Read more about incompatible vehicles.
Is it secure?
Your vehicle ID is stored securely and doesn't identify you personally.
We only use your vehicle's ID to recognise your vehicle and link it to your payment method when you've asked us to. Setting up Autocharge is what gives us that permission, and removing it takes the permission away.

The Evie Pass RFID card can be linked to your account via the Evie App to start a charge without using your phone. It gives you the flexibility to charge with a quick tap. It can also help in areas where you don’t have mobile reception. Evie Passes cost $5, including GST.
It's important to note that the payment method you use to purchase your Evie Pass will automatically become your default payment method for your account, including any other Evie Pass you may have associated with your account. You can change your default payment method anytime in your payment settings. To ensure successful charging with an RFID card, you must set up a valid debit or credit card as your payment method in the app. PayPal and Apple Pay are not accepted.
Purchasing an Evie Pass
You will be asked if you'd like an Evie Pass when you sign up for the Evie App, but you can also do it later by following these steps:
- Sign in;
- Select Profile in the bottom navigation bar;
- Choose Wallet then Evie Pass from the list;
- Tap the "Purchase Evie Pass" button. You’ll be prompted to enter your address details and pay a one-time $5 fee to confirm your order.
Please allow up to 2 weeks for your card to be delivered. If your card does not arrive and you would like a refund, please get in touch with support.
Once you have received your Evie Pass in the mail, you will need to link it to your account to start a charge. To do this:
- Return to the Profile page in the Evie App and choose "Evie Pass" from the list;
- This time, tap the "Activate Evie Pass" button;
- You’ll be prompted to enter the 8-digit code on your Evie Pass and tap "Activate Evie Pass."
In your Evie Pass settings, you can deactivate any Evie Pass associated with your account or reactivate an Evie Pass removed from your account.
Your Evie Pass will be ready to use if you have a valid debit or credit card set up as your payment method. Note: If you have Apple Pay or PayPal as your default payment method, the Evie Pass RFID card will not work.
