What is Autocharge?

Autocharge is like magic (kind of)! We can use most vehicles' Media Access Control (MAC) addresses to initiate a session on most of our network.

What does that mean in plain speech? Well, once you’ve set Autocharge up in the Evie App for a compatible vehicle, you can say goodbye to the hassle of starting a charge from the app most of the time! All you’ll have to do is plug in, and the charge will start.

How to get Autocharge

What do I need?

The app will do most of the work to ensure your vehicle is compatible with Autocharge. That said, we do need you to:

  1. Add a compatible vehicle to your account;
  2. Add or maintain a debit or credit card (not Apple Pay or PayPal) as your default payment method;
  3. Have completed at least one charge session on a compatible charger since 1 June 2024.

Starting an Autocharge session

Once Autocharge is activated, starting a session is as simple as rolling up to a compatible charger and plugging in. But it’s best to keep an eye on the charger’s screen to ensure that the charge has started (you’ll see a green tick) and that energy is being delivered. Your dashboard and the Active Charges tab in the Evie app will also show you when charging starts.

If you haven’t enabled push notifications in the Evie App, it might be a good time to do so. We’ll let you know when your charge starts and ends.

Ending an Autocharge session

You can stop the charge from the charger or your vehicle. The receipt will be sent to your email, and the session will be recorded in your Past Charges.

Autocharge FAQ

Is it secure?

We will always ask your permission before we use an identifier like your MAC Address. We use a one-way hash to de-identify your MAC Address from our backend, so not even we will see it. Rest assured that this information is securely stored.

Can I remove or pause a vehicle from using Autocharge?

Yes. To remove Autocharge just visit the vehicle page in the Profile section.

From their you will see your Autocharge status as "Activated". Tapping on this will take you to the Edit Autocharge page.

Here you will see a Remove Autocharge button which will stop Autocharge from being linked to your account.

You can also pause the use of Autocharge without removing it from your account - you might be useful if, for example, you are lending your vehicle to someone.

Can I activate Autocharge on a rental vehicle?

Yes, you can! But just a heads-up—remember to remove Autocharge from your account before you return it. Otherwise, you could be charged for the next driver’s charging sessions.

Can I use an Evie voucher with Autocharge?

Yes. If you have a voucher, it will be applied to your charge session before your card is charged.

What sites are incompatible with Autocharge?

Some sites, like many of our highway sites, are incompatible with Autocharge, so be sure to check whether the site you charge at is compatible with Autocharge. View list of incompatible chargers here.

You can see on the map the sites that are incompatible with Autocharge. Map pins will display the following icon:
